Javea Cusine
Javea has several restaurants and cafés serving both international and national fare. Tapas are a great way for visitors to sample some of the culinary delights of the area, and to taste both modern and traditional recipes. Being located right on the coast, Javea is popular for its fresh seafood dishes and many of the restaurants are located with panoramic views of the Mediterranean.
Two main fundamentals of the Mediterranean cuisine are garlic and olive oil which are found in many of the local dishes. ‘Alli i Oli’ is served as an accompaniment to many dishes and is a garlic mayonnaise to bring out the flavours of the food. Rice is a main ingredient of many of the local dishes including ‘arròs al forn’ which is oven baked rice, and the more traditional paella.
‘Cocas’ are very typical of Javea and are small pastries similar to pizzas, which are topped with pepper and tomato or olive oil and anchovies. Empanadillas are also popular and are small pasties with a variety of fillings. Fish and shellfish are popular with ‘bogamarins’, or sea urchins being a delicacy of the area. A variety of fish stews can be found in the restaurants, and freshly salted anchovies and tuna can be enjoyed freshly caught.
