The Moors and Christian Festival
The Moors and Christian Festival is in full swing in Javea this week. The fiesta commenced on the 12th of July and will continue till the 20th with the finale taking place on the last two days. The celebration is centred around a re-enactment of the battle between the Christians and the Moors which will take place on the sea front of the Javea port.
The festivities take place throughout the week, with several colourful processions walking the streets. Many of the locals dress up in dynamic battle field costumes, and march along accompanied by the tunes of different bands. There is a large fair in the town, with hundreds of stalls serving food and drinks.
Different stages of the ancient battle are re-enacted through the week with the final battle on the 20th. The Christians then recapture the Embassy and the Grava Beach Castle and march through the streets. Their elaborate costumes and the accompanying music are a wonderful sight that should not be missed. The end of the festival is celebrated with a huge firework display which will take place on the Port Quay by Pirotecnia Turis.
